Surprise! This dried-up, former grocery store potted Easter Lily (Lilium longiflorum) has borne unexpected fruit. Or flower. It was rescued from its way to the green bin in the front hall of ma belle-mère (mother-in-law) this summer and plopped into a spare corner of the back garden. Just in case.
Ta da! It is now making lily lips at the 'Janet' hosta.
I had a surprise amaryllis bloom 2 weeks ago. It's fun to have things bloom out of season!
ReplyDeleteA bit of horticultural trivia I picked up on a trip to Sydney, Australia and surrounds (it might have been a lie to entertain tourists): The Easter Lily is an Australian wild flower; a weed. Once someone pointed this out to me, I saw Easter lilies in all kinds of unlikely places... which was cool, because I think they're gorgeous.
